Sam’s Latest Moves

Sam’s almost 2 years old now and he’s improving his skills every day. His dancing is no exception. Here’s a look (keep an eye out for his latest moves “Crazy Arms”, “Hip Thrust”, “The Stomp”, “Sit Dancing”, and “The Coffee Table Grind”):

Todd’s latest cast

Todd has surgery on his right wrist today to fit a screw in the broken bone.  He got a new cast which is ridiculously large and heavy (to keep his wrist truly immobile for a week).  He even has  a funky foam strap-on contraption to keep it elevated since they want to keep the hand above his heart.  It’s rather absurd how we went from thinking he might have just sprained wrists to this…….

We’ve had a lot of friends step up and really help us out–watching Sam (and Todd); lending us a car; bringing us groceries, baked goods, books and games; and just providing company and a shoulder to cry on.  Todd’s friend Mike in particular has become an asset to our family by taking Todd to and from his doctor appointments.  This is no small task considering the effort for him to get up and down our stairs and some of the appointments take up half the day. We really miss our families and thank you all for your positive words!

On a more frivolous note, Sam celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at day care today and enjoyed showing off his new hat (although he refused to wear it for a photo after we got home):

Spring has arrived!

We had our first really warm day today. I picked up Sam early and we got out to the park for a couple hours (Tuesdays were formerly my day off to hang out with Sam, but I’ll be working 1/2 days until Todd is back in action).  Sam breezed through the playground and started wandering–climbing on curbs and ledges are his favorite parts of the park these days.  We happened upon a pile of dirt that held his attention the longest, along with a stick to poke in the dirt. The funny thing was, after Sam had moved on, I got a call from a friend while we there to see if we could meet him and his 2-year old at the park, and THEY were at the dirt pile too!  …..so Sam got 2 doses of dirt today.

Even city kids like to play with good, old fashioned dirt.

Poor Todd had to enjoy the weather by the breeze through the window.

*sigh*

Todd saw the hand specialist today, who confirmed there were bones broken in both wrists.  He has another new cast on the right wrist (orange and black!) and a different, more supportive brace on the left wrist.  He’ll have a minor surgery next Wednesday on the right wrist (which is actually good news–healing will supposedly be faster with a screw than a cast alone).  It looks like Todd will be working on molding his butt impression into the couch cushions for another couple weeks, but also giving his one good leg quite a workout.  Here’s Todd showing off his latest apparatuses (according to Wikipedia, that really is a word!?) while watching TV with Sammy “No Pants”.

Happy Birthday, Mema!

This is really more of a duet than a solo. Also, judging by Sam’s state of dress, it’s a bit of a burlesque show, too. Happy Birthday!

A sense of humor

With Todd being injured we’ve resorted to TV a bit more.  Todd and Sam have bonded over the Muppet Show; Sam particularly loves the Swedish Chef:

This video also shows Todd’s cast and braces for posterity–hopefully only 5 weeks to go!

For those critiquing Sam’s outfit….he has his pants off because our apartment is very hot.  He’s a toddler and can get away with (and loves !) being pants-free.
