Although many people feel it’s unnecessary, we’ve signed up for a series of childbirth education classes that will be a combination of Bradley and Lamaze methods. There is an emphasis on natural childbirth and avoiding medical intervention, if possible. We’re both hoping these classes further empower us to make educated decisions about the birth, both when developing our plan and during labor when we have last-minute decisions. The main teacher is also a doula (labor coach), something we have been considering. Again, many people seem to think a doula is unnecessary, but I happen to know someone that’s a doula so it wouldn’t be so much another stranger as a friend helping out. More about that another time, after we make some decisions!
